Saint Francis Catholic Academy is a “one-to-one” educational technology institution with all incoming students receiving an Apple MacBook Air laptop computer when they begin school. Incorporating educational technology in our curriculum not only creates digitally literate learners, it also increases the level of student accountability and helps foster good device stewardship as the laptops the students use become theirs upon graduation. The inclusion of educational technology has a positive effect on student participation and engagement, adding to the creation of a stimulating and dynamic learning environment. It also allows students to participate in school the same way they actively participate in their personal and social lives.
The International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education noted that “One overarching theme is that most of the technologies we reviewed had a positive influence on multiple indicators of student engagement, which may lead to a larger return on investment in terms of learning outcomes.”
